About Me
Hi my name is Mark!
I was raised in Indiana but did lots of traveling with my family while growing up. I graduated with an agricultural engineering degree from Purdue University and worked as an engineer for the USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service for 8 years across Pennsylvania and California. In 2019 I left that career to pursue a lifestyle more focused on spending time outdoors. Since then I have worked as a hiking guide in Yosemite and southern Utah, a cross-country ski instructor, and a US Forest Service ranger; earned a graduate certificate in Protected Area Management from the University of Montana; volunteered for several environment-focused non-profits; and constantly pursued my own personal adventures, challenges, and interests.
Along the way I have developed an enthusiasm for studying the natural and human histories of the landscapes I work and play in and for sharing those observations and lessons with others. I have found that understanding a bit about where you are adds so much interest, joy, connection, and meaning to our experiences. I believe that sharing this curiosity and joy with others can build relationships between people and nature, between each other, can create future stewards of our planet, and can seriously enhance the stoke we share for outdoor adventure and appreciation.
